On the occasion of the International Day of Families, I would like to write a few things about this institution. The International Day of Families was established by the United Nations in 1993 with the aim of highlighting the importance of the family, as it constitutes the most important nucleus of our society. This annual celebration reflects the importance that the international community attributes to the family as our fundamental unit.

Types of Families Today

In the 21st century, the concept of "family" is expanding. A family is the famous "nuclear" one, with a mother, father, and children who usually live in one home. A family is also the single-parent family, that is, one that consists of one parent and one or more children. A family is also a couple or a parent who has adopted or is a foster parent, as well as a couple of the same or opposite sex without children.

Although families around the world have changed their form in recent decades, in terms of their structure and as a result of global trends and demographic changes, the United Nations continues to recognize the family as the basic unit of society. The International Day of Families is celebrated in all countries, demonstrating the importance it has for modern society.

The Importance of Family for the Nucleus of Society

The institution of the family is not insignificant, as it is the basic building block of society. Families are the first places where values, norms, and socialization begin to be shaped. They are the first school, where children learn about communication, sharing, respect, and love. Families are also the first place where individuals learn to interact with others, how to deal with conflicts, and how to manage emotions. They are also the place where people find emotional and psychological support, a sense of belonging, and a source of identity. Therefore, the family is essential for the stability and development of individuals and society as a whole.

Every day, a parent does everything in their power to make sure their family doesn't lack anything. They may not be a superhero, even though they do so many things simultaneously, but for their family they are a great hero, because everyone can rely on them and feel safe. And the truth is, they don't need superpowers, all they need is good planning, love and determination.

So, when we wake up in the morning angry and complaining for no reason, or when we feel sad about things that seem essential to us, let us always remember that being born in the right place with the right parents is simply a matter of luck. Let us be grateful for what we have and learn to love a little more!
