We cleaned Voula beach for World Cleanup Day
On Saturday 18th September we decided to participate in World Cleanup Day 2021! On World Cleanup Day, volunteers from around the world come together for a common goal: To clean up the planet in one day 🌞 It started in 2008 and already has a presence in 180 countries, with 50,000,000 volunteers!
Unfortunately on our shores, one can find huge amounts of waste. WWF reports that there is an average of 925 trash per 100 meters. Especially during the summer months, waste on our beaches and seas increases even more.
Upon researching, our team chose the beach of Voula. The reason is that the old B 'Beach of Voula has been abandoned for years and our research showed that we would have a lot of work to do! Of course, we decided to invite our family and friends to help! The plan was simple: We will meet there and as soon as we finish cleaning the beach we will all get together at a nearby place to regain our strength!
Considering all the protection measures, we met there early in the morning and begun.
The result? 🏖
We were happy to meet other groups there as well, for the same purpose, and together we managed to leave behind a sparkly clean beach!
Equally important, however, was that after a long time, due to Covid, we all did something together as a team and we all enjoyed it a lot! At the end of the day, we all felt very happy that we spent time together while doing something positive for the planet. 🌍
The inspiration to participate in World Cleanup Day came from the Up Group - in 2020 more than 100 Up employees from 10 countries participated in this day! This year we hope to help have an even bigger presence 🧡
